Terms of Service

Last updated 26 October 2026

Effective 20 October 2026; last revised 26 October 2026.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Jeff Morton (“Hairpin”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Hairpin app on iOS and Android, including the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screens. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Hairpin.

The Short Version

The full Terms below are what count.

Who Can Use Hairpin

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Hairpin only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms for you.

Hairpin is built for licensed drivers and their passengers. You may not use it if the law where you live does not allow you to.

Your Account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings › Account › Delete account) or on the web at https://convoy-backend-j9q1.onrender.com/delete-account. Our Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what is kept.

Driving Safety

You are the driver, and you alone are responsible for how you drive. Hairpin is a driving aid. It does not control your vehicle and is not a substitute for attentive, lawful driving.

Hairpin is not an emergency service. In an emergency, stop somewhere safe and call your local emergency number.

What the App Tells You May Be Wrong

Routes, turn instructions, arrival times, speed limits, speed and red-light camera alerts, school zones, road incidents, weather, hazard reports and the positions of other drivers may be wrong, out of date, late or missing. Real-world conditions, posted signs and the instructions of police always come first.

Hazards are reported by other members, and crew positions come from their phones. Both are crowd-sourced. We do not check them, and we cannot guarantee they are accurate or complete.

Camera alerts are not allowed everywhere. It is your responsibility to turn them off (in Settings) wherever they are not permitted.

No Racing

Hairpin is not a racing app. Top speed and personal-best figures are a record of lawful driving on public roads. They are not a challenge, a competition or an invitation to drive faster. Hairpin records a top speed only while a route is running, and we may remove readings that look wrong.

Don’t use Hairpin to organise, film, promote or encourage street racing, stunts, speed contests or any reckless or illegal driving. Clubs and events that do are removed.

If you use Hairpin on a closed course or a track, you do so at your own risk and under the venue’s rules. Hairpin is not designed or tested for track use.

Sharing Your Location

Hairpin is about driving together, so you choose to share your car’s position with the members of the clubs and conversations you join. It is never shown to the public or to people outside your crew.

Your car’s live position is shared while you are driving: while your phone is connected to CarPlay or Android Auto, or moving at vehicle speed (above about 15 km/h). Once you stop, your crew sees where the car is parked instead. Set Visible or Ghost in Settings › Visibility & Comms (or the H menu). In Ghost your position is not shared, driving or parked.

Members you block can’t see your car, voice clips or messages, and you can’t see theirs.

Share only with people you trust. Never use another member’s position to follow, track, meet or confront them without their agreement. Our Privacy Policy has the details.

Community Rules

Hairpin has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive members. These rules cover everything you put into Hairpin: your handle and profile photo, voice clips, messages, club and event names and descriptions, hazard reports, and car scans.

Don’t:

If you break these rules we may remove your content and suspend or permanently remove your account, without warning. Where someone’s safety is at risk, we may also contact the police.

Reporting and Blocking

You can report a member or their content: tap … on a member’s card, a roster row, a voice clip, a conversation, a club, an event or a hazard, choose a reason and send. You can block a member from the same menu. Blocking is private: the other person is not told. Settings › Blocked members lists your blocks and lets you undo them.

We review every report within 24 hours. When content breaks these Terms we remove it, and we suspend or remove the account that posted it.

If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number first.

Your Content

You own what you create in Hairpin: voice clips, messages, hazard reports, the photos you take of your car and the 3D model made from them, and the clubs and events you set up.

You give Hairpin a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, send and display that content, only to run Hairpin and to show it to the people you share it with. This includes sending your car photos to Tripo, an AI 3D‑modelling service that turns them into a 3D model, which happens only after you agree on the scan screen. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except as our Privacy Policy describes (for example, hazard alerts stay until they expire, without your name, and backups expire on their own schedule).

You confirm you have the right to share what you post. Only scan a car you own or have permission to scan, and keep other people out of your photos. A scan is a computer-made model: it may get details of your car wrong. Each new render replaces your current car, and the number of renders you have is shown in the app.

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

Scout

Scout, the voice assistant, writes and speaks its answers automatically, using AI services from OpenAI and Anthropic. It works only if you allow it (Settings › Visibility & Comms), and what is sent to them is listed in our Privacy Policy. Its answers may be inaccurate, out of date or not what you expected. Don’t rely on Scout for anything safety-critical.

Scout’s language and tone are your choice in Settings. The Unfiltered language setting is off by default and uses strong language. Turn it on only if you are comfortable with that.

Other Services

Hairpin works with services run by other companies. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them, and we are not responsible for them.

These services can change or stop, and some features may stop working when they do.

Plans and Payments

Hairpin is free to use today. If we offer paid plans later, the price and what is included will be shown before you buy. Purchases are billed by the App Store or Google Play under their terms, subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you cancel and ask for refunds through your App Store or Google Play account. Deleting the app or your Hairpin account does not cancel a store subscription.

Changes to the App

Hairpin keeps changing. Features may change, move or be removed, things may sometimes break, and updates may arrive automatically.

We may change, pause or stop any part of Hairpin at any time.

Our App

Hairpin, its design, its software and its name belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use, under these Terms. Don’t copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer the app, or use it to build a competing service, except where the law allows it.

Suspension and Ending Your Use

You can stop using Hairpin at any time and delete your account.

We may suspend or close your account, or remove content, if you break these Terms, if your use puts other people or Hairpin at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it is safe and lawful, we will tell you why.

The sections on your content, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law and the general terms continue to apply after your account ends.

Disclaimers

Hairpin is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any information in it is accurate.

Some places do not allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hairpin, its developers, owners and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill, vehicle damage, citation, personal injury or death, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — whether in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, and even if we were told it might happen.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim about Hairpin is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Hairpin in the 12 months before the claim, or CAD $100.

You agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs if a claim is brought against us because of your content, your driving or your breach of these Terms, to the extent the law allows.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Apple and Google

These Terms are between you and Hairpin, not Apple or Google, and Hairpin, not Apple or Google, is responsible for the app and its content.

If you got Hairpin from the App Store: Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is not responsible for any claim about the app or your use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer-protection claims, or claims that it infringes someone else’s intellectual property. You confirm that you are not in a country under a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

You must also follow the App Store’s or Google Play’s own terms when you use the app.

Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and any dispute will be heard in the courts there, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.

If you have a problem with Hairpin, please contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to fix it.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as Hairpin changes. The date at the top shows when they were last revised. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Hairpin after an update means you accept the new Terms. If you don’t agree, stop using Hairpin and delete your account.

General

These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Hairpin about the app. If part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You can’t transfer these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them if Hairpin is sold or reorganised.
